Wincle School Pottery Day

On Tuesday 5th October David Bell visited Wincle C.E. Primary School, Wincle. He brought with him a potters wheel and enough clay for each child to make a pot. Mr. Bell showed the children how to make a pot. He put a piece of clay onto the centre of a flat disk shaped wheel which was spinning around. He cupped his hands around the wet clay and gradually formed the clay into shape. He pressed his thumb into the centre of the clay to form the middle of the pot. "Now it's your turn," he said.

Each child made their own pot. "I enjoyed pressing my hands into the clay," said a junior.

The children had to make a careful accurate drawing of their own pot. Then they drew it looking taller and wider.

Finally the children worked on the designs for their pots. They looked at the work of other designers and artists to help them.
